Ingredients

Garlic Butter

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened to room temperature
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil optional
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp minced fresh parsley (can use 1/4 tsp dried parsley instead)
  • pinch of salt and pepper

Bread

  • 1 loaf French bread Italian bread is a good substitute
  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F and line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper. Set aside.
  • In a small mixing bowl, add all garlic butter ingredients (butter, olive oil, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, parsley, salt and pepper) and stir to combine well.
  • Slice loaf of bread in half lengthwise (so you end up with 2 halves of bread that are as long as the whole loaf was) and add to prepared baking sheet.
  • Generously spread butter mixture over the cut sides of the bread, and top with Parmesan cheese (if using).
  • Bake for 10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy enough for your tastes. Slice into how ever many pieces you'd like.

Notes

  • Serving size assumes you have 16 total slices of bread, but you're welcome to slice the bread into as many slices as you want.

Freezing garlic bread

  1. Slice bread in half so you have two long pieces of bread.
  2. Spread garlic butter mixture on each slice of the bread and sprinkle tops with Parmesan cheese.
  3. Place bread slices on a baking sheet and freeze for 1 hour, until frozen solid.  Then remove from baking sheet, wrap individually with plastic wrap and/or foil.  Add to resealable freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months.
  4. To bake: remove from plastic wrap and foil, place on baking sheet and bake in a preheated 350 F degree oven for about 20 minutes, or until heated through.
  5. Move baking sheet about 6-8" away from the broiler and broil for 1-2 minutes, until cheese is bubbly, watching closely so the cheese doesn't burn.
