Is there anything better on a humid and sweltering summer day than an icy cold drink? Well, other than some air conditioning lol.

I love drinks like this white sangria recipe, because they come together quickly, make a big batch, and are easy to customize to your tastes.

This sangria is light and refreshing, with a crispy sweetness that’s hard to beat!

The base is dry white wine, then it’s mixed with some apple liqueur, fruit, and finished off with some sparkling water for that great bit of fizz.

Why you’ll love this recipe!

  • Easy – no fancy equipment needed here, just a pitcher and something to stir with.
  • Customize-able – you can add any of your favorite fruits, or use a different liqueur if you’d like.
  • Big batch – this recipe makes a large pitcher full, so you won’t have to keep remaking people’s drinks.

What do I need to make this recipe?

ingredients needed to make white sangria.
  • White wine – I like to use a light and dry white wine, such as a pinot grigio.
  • Apple liqueur – you can use any brand you like, but Berentzen, 99 Apples, and even DeKuyper sour apple pucker are some good options.
  • Mango – normally I’d be all about the fresh mango here, but since we want the drink to stay cold, and ripe mangoes are hard to find year round in certain places, frozen is the best way to go.
  • Pineapple – while you can certainly use fresh pineapple if you prefer, I like to use frozen, just for the chilled drink factor.
  • Apple – you can use any variety that you’d like. Granny smith is my favorite, but Honeycrisp is another good alternative.
  • Peach – peaches (or necatarines, whichever you prefer), are good fresh or frozen in this drink.
  • Strawberries – I find fresh strawberries give the best texture, but frozen will work in a pinch.
  • Lemon – no need to squeeze any juice out, just plain slices is what you need.
  • Lime – same as with the lemon.
  • Sparkling water – this adds a bubbly finish to the drink, but you can also use ginger ale, club soda, or even flavored sparkling water.

How to make crisp and fruity white sangria:

This is just an overview; the full ingredients and directions are in the recipe card toward the bottom of this post.

step by step photo collage of how to make white sangria
  1. Combine fruits. To avoid splashing, sometimes I like to add all the fruit to the pitcher first.
  2. Add liquids. Pour in the wine and liqueur.
  3. Stir and chill. Sangrias need to chill for several hours.
  4. Serve. This isn’t pictured, but before serving, stir in sparkling water and enjoy!

Helpful Tip!

This white sangria goes well with cheese and crackers, as well as salted meats (such as some thinly sliced prosciutto), grapes, dried fruits, and nuts.

Variations of this recipe

  • Wine – my favorite wine to use for this recipe is pinot grigio, but a sauvignon blanc, riesling, or even a light flavored chardonnay are good alternatives.
  • Sweeter – if you like your drink a bit sweeter, feel free to add some simple syrup (either store-bought or homemade) to the pitcher, or add some individually to the serving glasses.
  • Liqueur – instead of apple liqueur, you could try some peach schnapps, pineapple liqueur, limoncello, mango liqueur, or your favorite type!
  • Fruit – you can switch up the fruits used in this sangria, and use your favorites. I do recommend using some frozen fruit though, since it helps keep the pitcher chilled.
  • Bubbly – instead of sparkling water, you could use ginger ale, club soda, or opt for a flavored sparkling water of your choice.

FAQ’s

Can you eat the fruit in sangria?

Absolutely! Just be careful, the fruit absorbs a lot of the alcohol, so they’ll be fairly potent.

Can sangria be made with only wine, and no liqueur?

Yes, you can skip the liqueur if you’d like, although we definitely prefer the drink with the liqueur added.

Making white sangria ahead of time

By nature, sangria is a natural make ahead recipe since it has to chill for several hours. If you don’t let it chill, the flavors won’t be as pronounced and harmonious.

You can prep a bit though and have the fruit sliced ahead of time.

A crisp white sangria is the perfect chilled drink on a sweltering summer day! Easy to make and customize, this sangria recipe is so light and fruity, and sure to be a crowd-pleaser!

Storage

Leftover sangria should be covered and stored in the refrigerator. Drink it within a few days for the best flavor.

The sparkling water will go flat, so when you serve it, just add a splash of new bubbly to each glass.

My Favorite Pitcher!

The pitcher pictured in this post was a gift, so I can’t find the exact one to link to, however I do also have this pitcher, which I love. It holds over 100 oz and the lid is a great extra feature!

A crisp white sangria is the perfect chilled drink on a sweltering summer day! Easy to make and customize, this sangria recipe is so light and fruity, and sure to be a crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients

  • 2 (750 ml each) bottles of dry white wine
  • 1/4 cup apple liqueur
  • 1 cup frozen chopped mangoes
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1 granny smith apple sliced
  • 1 peach or nectarine pitted and sliced
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • 1 lemon sliced
  • 1 lime sliced
  • 16 oz sparkling water

Instructions

Combine

  • To a large pitcher (I would recommend at least 75 oz), add 2 (750 ml each) bottles of dry white wine, 1/4 cup apple liqueur, 1 cup frozen chopped mangoes, 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks, 1 granny smith apple, 1 peach or nectarine, 1 cup sliced strawberries, 1 lemon, and 1 lime.

Chill

  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, or up to about 10-12 hours.

Serving

  • If you're having a party, and the pitcher will be consumed relatively quickly, then you can remove it from the refrigerator and pour in 16 oz sparkling water, then stir and serve.
  • If you'd like to make it last a bit, then add some of the fruit from the pitcher to each serving glass, then pour the sangria over the top, finishing with a bit of the sparkling water.
